 Self Reflection

Before

Before deciding to conduct this project, our group members were discuss to have a meeting to voice out our opinions on what project should we carried out. During the meeting, projects like gotong royong at residential, volunteering at zoo ,visit old folks , visit orphanage and others activities are proposed. Since we loved children, hence we chose to visit an organisation named Persatuan Kebajikan Kanak-kanak Istimewa Insan (PKKII) or Special Children Charity Organization. At first, all of us were shy to share our ideas but our group leader, Koh Song Lam who always make our discussion atmosphere to a more chill and relax way. Before the project day, we were going to supermarket to buy our stuffs for our activities purposed and also we buy some daily necessities for them.

During 22nd May, we reached PKKII in the early morning. We started with ice breaking session by introducing ourself to the children there. Then, we had a series of activities like colouring session, games session and dancing session with them. Also, we also made sandwiches with them and treat them glutinous rice balls as dessert. For the job allocation that day, I was responsible to prepare ingredients for making sandwiches and cook for the glutinous rice balls. 

During that day, there was one incident that I think is worth mentioning. Our groupmate Jason was confessed by 2 girls there. When carrying out any activities that day, both of the girls kept to stay beside him.

Through this visiting PKKII project, I learnt a lot and also had a very interesting experience that worth to be memorized. 

Firstly, this project has taught me the value of teamwork. Many jobs must be planned and completed during the planning stage, the ongoing stage, and the post-project stage. The project cannot be completed without adequate people. Some members of our team assist in the planning and leadership of the group, while others assist in the preparation of equipment and transportation, in the interviewing of person in charge, and in the taking and editing of images and movies. Individual are unable to do these tasks in the time allotted without the assistance of a team. This project teaches me how to work with others.

 Besides, this project make me keep up with children, gives me a better sense of belonging. When you become an active member of your local community, I can feel more connected and improve my self-esteem. Helping orphanages and orphans can expand my mind to new perspectives, help me grow more adapted to society, and help me avoid the disconnection that is common in the society. 

Thirdly, this project had taught me to be a grateful person. Since the children in PKKII mostly lived with special children, mostly they are not able to take care of themselves and been sent here by parents or family. Thus, I was fortune one because I was a healthy individual and I got family members that love me so much.
